An Immersive and Educational Farm Visit with an EAL/D Lens
Students will engage in an immersive day experience on the operational Camden Park farm, a site with over 200 years of significant historical connection to Australia's agricultural heritage. The site boasts a large variety of farm and native animals that are regularly seen by visiting students. Throughout the day, educators from Camden Park Environmental Education Centre will facilitate a tailored program designed to foster student engagement and inspire meaningful learning opportunities.
Learning experiences
- Introduction to the Macarthur Farm and its historical significance followed by Sheep mustering and insight into early rural settler lifestyles.
- Journey the farm on tractor pulled wagon observing and discussing animals and points of interest.
- Introduction to Aboriginal tools, weapons and utensils combined with use of boomerangs and woomeras.
- Aboriginal plant uses and weaving taught through story.
- The decoration of a boomerang with a personal journey using Aboriginal symbols.
- Bull cave reimagined as sheep with ochre paint.
- Nature investigation including bird watching and Macro-invertebrae sampling of farm dam.
- Pitching of colonial tents as used by miners in the gold rush days.
- Nature journaling of farm vistas in watercolour.
